President Donald Trump’s threat to Iran on Wednesday morning amounted to a sharp turnabout.

Less than 48 hours ago, Trump insisted to reporters a deal could be “two or three days” away. He sounded more reluctant than ever to restart hostilities with Iran, in part because it would mean the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz “for months.”

“If we do the bombing, you know, a lot of people are going to be killed. Who wants to do that? I don’t,” he said early Tuesday.
